Post Body

I believe I have an understanding of cross-addiction, substitution, and other issues related to taking different substances. I have both some research and some anecdotes, but nothing conclusive. I've read both sides. As for some anecdotes, my uncle cannot have a single hit/drink/pill without falling off the deep end. But my mother was a coke and alcohol addict, and she is 10 years sober now and has handled necessary opioid prescriptions with no issue. That all being said, when perusing this sub I see a lot of comments indicating that anyone with any past of any addiction to any substance should not ever take prescription drugs which are ipioids or stimulants or anything else with any possibility for abuse. Seeing some of my addict family and friends finally thrive on these medications tells me otherwise. I guess I'm just confused. I have been having health issues that might require such meds so I've been thinking about it a lot.
