I have an old toro 521 with a 6.5hp powering it, and I go through probably 2 auger belts a year up here in southern maine. The belts I've been using ARE for power equipment (not fhp belts or automotive) but I have yet to try kevlar.
I got better stuff to do than be stuck behind a blower all day.. so I work the thing pretty hard. Im not scared of loading the motor right up, but I'll back off if it starts to bog.
I'm thinking perhaps the tiny 3/8 belt it uses to drive the auger may not be conducive to the rate at which I want to be able to move snow, even if I were to spring for a nice name brand kevlar belt.
What's everyone think?
