Ending 1

Just wanted to say, unironically, this is my second-favorite ending. Ending 4, of course, is my favorite. But I think this ending is unironically actually really good, even though it's emotional Hell.

Fang and Anon are horrible matches, but also the perfect horrible matches. Anon: He knows somewhere inside himself, repeatedly, that something's bothering Fang, and never knows what to do to help. He's a virgin (until one of the final nights), he has no experience with any of this, he doesn't know what to do, but he does genuinely care for Fang... he's just... too immature and inexperienced to deal with someone as complicated as Fang. Meanwhile, Fang's only "friends" she's ever had forever are these two bandmate assholes who won't even let her play her own instrument she favors and is best at, and actually pretty good at; her parents don't accept her; and Anon also doesn't really even accept her identity (forget the later endings, it's more important how he deals with it in this timeline). From her perspective, absolutely no one in her life has ever supported her, not even people she barely, and begrudgingly, calls, "friends."

But, Anon is kind of like her. They're both basically losers who no one cares about. Despite their dysfunctional relationship, and how much they actually fight, and including physical fights with each other, they have a lot of good memories. Ditching class and others, smoking, telling jokes, Fang piggyback rides on Anon, they go out and about and do fun things together. They spend time at each other's houses, they stay up late, they text.

Despite how fucked up they are and how shitty of a couple they are... they do love each other.

I believe on that final morning, Fang woke up and probably intentionally disabled Anon's alarm on his phone. So that he would purposely sleep in, so that she could leave him out of harm's way and go to the school and conduct the shooting. Her final look to him before she died was kind of her response to him saying, finally, that he loved her. It was her way of saying, "I love you, too." You can see the wrinkles under her eyes, from how she's not been sleeping for days.

What I like about this ending is... unlike ending 2, in this version... They still do love each other. As absolutely fucking tragic as it is. It's basically Romeo and Juliet did a fusion dance with We Need to Talk About Kevin.

Fucking incredible ending, as "bad" as it is. God damn movie material.
