Why does the app crop screenshots for me but not for other people? We both have iPhones.

Why does the app crop screenshots for me but not for other people? My buddy sent screenshots in chat and when I viewed they were cropped but when I saved to camera roll it showed whole screenshot. In reverse when I send screenshots they also appear cropped but not for him.
