So I've been playing Smite for about 5-6 months or so now if memory serves. I absolutely love the game and have spent my fair share of money on the god pack, voice packs and skins. Turned level 30 a few weeks after beta ended.
I play a lot with my friends. Used to play a lot of Siege until it went 4v4 but now we mainly play Assault which I have grown fond of for getting me to try different gods.
The problem I have is that I'm terrible. Well not terrible but I'm awful compared to my friends and always feel really bad when they have to carry me through matches because they constantly get positive K/Ds (and one of friends who can consistently go 20 kills with a Hunter and it's basically GG for the enemy) and I'm sat here going 1/7/7 on a 40 kill game... As the assassin. Obviously there is the rare gem where I'll get a positive K/D game with an assassin or ADC but when our tank gets a positive K/D something is desperately wrong with what I'm doing.
A prime example I had the other day; background first, I've never had a Penta, not even a Quadra, and only 9 triple kills in the time it took me to get to lv30. My first (and only) legendary is Nemesis, I love her kit and her skills. I am mediocre at best with her, mainly breaking even with my K/D most games, then my friend in an assault game gets her and states that he doesn't really play her but he'll have a game with her anyway and proceeds to get a Quadra that game with a god he never plays. Suffice to say that this was the last straw.
This prompted me to go back to practice and see what my problems are but Ra bot isn't exactly the most strenuous opponent around. So I tried queuing solo when my friends aren't around in an effort to improve as I'd rather suffer the BM of random people to the internal embarrassment of being so bad with my friends. My friends have never hassled me about my below average skills as we do just play for fun but I still feel bad when I cause a loss that could have been prevented because I fed too hard.
So I suppose what I'm asking for is advice on what I can do to improve my play style. Any tips, videos, articles or general advice would all be welcome :)
Edit: Thanks for the all the responses! For those asking, my IGN is FreeEdgar2014
