does anyone know why???

So two days ago, something went badly wrong with my phone. I had left it to charge overnight, since I slept at around 11:50pm. But when I woke up, it wouldn't turn on. I thought that it just didn't charge properly, so I tried plugging it back in, and when I did, the little lightning symbol on the screen was red, instead of green. Does anyone know why it turned red, and if there is a way to fix it?
