Zwave connectivity
Post Body

Hi all,

I'm an IT Pro, but I really don't know smart home stuff beyond the basics of Zigbee and Zwave. So my landlord has a Aeotec SmartThings hub (don't know which model) and we have it plugged in via ethernet. The only non-wifi device on the hub is the Weiser smartlock using Zwave Plus.

For about 2 years there were no connectivity issues. But for the last 6-8 months the lock disconnects randomly for random periods of time. It's very problematic.

I did not set these up, my landlords son did (my good friend).

However, circumstances are that I am the one troubleshooting the issue.

In the dead of inter, it was worse, but batteries were dying fast, so we thought it was batteries. It doesn't seem to be batteries.

Rebooting the hub seemed to temporarily restore the connectivity, but the issue keeps happening.

We moved the hub about 5-10m closer to the lock, but this hasn't actually helped. There isn't any available ethernet jack closet to the lock for the hub to go.

I invited myself to manage the SmartThings location from my landlord's SmartThings app. I've used this to monitor the network and try rebuilding the Zwave network, but this hasn't helped, other than to monitor.

I looked, but couldn't find any internal webUI for the SmartThings hub, but not sure if I'd be able to log in. Can I move the hub to wifi (not ideal, I try to keep all devices, especially stationary devices on ethernet whenever possible)?

Are there any other suggestions? Maybe a Zwave repeater? I know Zwave and Wifi are different technologies, but with Wifi I'd NEVER use a repeater, only wireless APs or properly designed home mesh systems.

Any help is appreciated.
