Hey everyone,
So, here's a bit about me: my dad's Indian and my mom's German. Growing up, I was always a bit... self-conscious about my Indian heritage. I guess you could say I internalized some of the racism out there. Plus, with my mom's strong German genetics, I looked pretty European.
But things started to change when I was younger. My dad taught me about the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and all the struggles surrounding it. That really sparked my interest in Indian history and culture. I began to realize that being Indian wasn't something to be ashamed of. It's actually pretty freaking cool!
As I've gotten older, I've become more comfortable talking about my heritage. I've even made some awesome Indian friends! And now, I'm taking the biggest step yet: I'm visiting my dad's side of the family in India this Diwali!
I'm both excited and nervous. I'm not the most religious person, but I'm definitely open to experiencing new things. Maybe I'll even surprise myself and join in on some of the festivities. Who knows?
