The rooftop pool was deserted, the city skyline glittering in the distance. I had slipped into the water for a late-night swim, the cool water a relief from the heat of the day.

He appeared out of nowhere, his shirt already off, revealing a toned chest that made my breath catch. “Mind if I join you?” he asked, his voice low and teasing.

“Suit yourself,” I replied, trying to sound indifferent as he slipped into the water beside me.
