I was first diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep Apnea in July 2014 while still in graduate school(Lack of insurance kept me from investigating these issues any earlier. The results from my sleep study (which was a split study) said my AHI was 55 and that I needed a pressure setting of 12. I was given the cheapest CPAP machine possible and went on my merry way. I went home and over the next 30 days I would constantly take my mask off during the night in my sleep and not be aware of it. It was then suggested that I set an alarm in the middle of the night to check if I have it still on and that I was just having a hard time adjusting. The only way I got compliant with this machine was by wearing the mask during the day. I did this and still on a good night would get 3 hours with my CPAP mask on total. The next suggestion was a full face mask and that I might be opening my mouth and still no solution. Anyway I would go back several times and still got no definitive answer (after trying several mask and sleeping medications). I graduated in December 2015 and then had a lapse in insurance till I found employment in September 2016. I went to a new Dr at my new location and he suggested I have a CPAP titration to ensure my pressure was correct and to identify any issues. I did and this time the pressure came back as 14. At 14 however my I still could not keep my mask on. I tried several methods which did not work. Then he suggested that I try to get an Auto CPAP which I did this past January (since I had new insurance). The mask was set on a pressure range form 12 to 16. Again I still could not keep my mask on at night. I went back in Feb. and he was like he had no clue . He stated that data from the machine indicated that the machine was shooting straight up to the max of the pressure range and staying there until I took it off. He suggested that the pressure range be changed to 14 to 20. I was frustrated at this point cause I was informed that my insurance would no longer cover supplies for my machine. I still haven't been able to keep my mask on and now am facing losing the auto cpap due to compliance (after another apointment I just had March 4th). The issue is I don't really have time to wear the mask a couple hours a day in order to meet compliance. I have tried taping the mask to my face, vet wrap around my head so I can't take the mask off (in the case I pull the hose out of the machine), trying different mask (7 in total) (full face, nasal pillow, nasal mask), several types of sleeping pills including some clonazepam (which all were prescribed) , and setting an alarm several times a night to ensure that I put it back on after I take it off. My apologies for the poor grammar but I just got off a 12 hour shift and am exhausted. I have no idea what to do. Does anyone here have any ideas that could help me ? Its almost been 4 years
