Who is the best character in the game (if there is one)

I've heard that Painwheel is the worst but who is the best? I know this may be hard to judge but who's the best in terms of range, combo potential, speed and strength. I think either Valentine or Squigly fits this but maybe it's with characters me or my friends don't play. I play Parasoul, Valentine, Beowulf and Cerebella with a little Double and Fukua and my friend plays Squigly, Filia, and, Cerebella, with a little Valentine, Fukua and Robot Fortune. (also note I'm a casual so I don't know everything about the game)
