Skullcandy Push Ultra earbuds have become untethered

I have a pair of Skullcandy Push Ultra wireless earbuds and have had them for about a year now but just recently they became untethered and are now two separate Bluetooth devices so only one will ever work at a time. How does this happen and how can I fix it? I've tried repairing multiple times but they're still separate from each other.
