Targeting skincare for skin of colour is a huge grey area!!!
I think alot of evidence based research does not target skin of colour. If you read their location and look at their demographics most of skin results is based on their sample which is usually non skin of colour . That's why when someone like me uses this sub I get bombarded with a bunch of hate because what I do does not fit their norm.
People easily categories about 3 and a half continents as skin of colour ethnics.
I don't think the term should be used that broadly
I believe that skin care products and their efficacy should be tested on specific ethnic groups to decipher what correlations are seen and how well a product works for these groups.
We all know what works for one person does not work for another.
But quiet frankly not everyone skin is going to react to otc 'exfoliating products' for example.
Dr dray is a good example of someone who specifically targets skin of colour when making recommendation I can't say she is the best.
When I've interacted on line and spoke about what works and doesn't work for me like on this sub I get a bunch of down votes and bashing And sometimes people may think what is unsafe for them is unsafe for everybody. It's not until I had to cite someone like Dr dray to have people believe me.
It's a shame as well because what's I know works for me for a while now will only be relevant when a relevant beauty guru has something to say about it.
I can't wait for the new skincare line that actually products which work for skin of colour. Like I say I don't mean to use this term broadly
But I have to spend so much money using higher percentage products by a derm because I can't get it otc. or I can't have specific treatments because it will cause hyperpigmentation
Or I can't treat the hyperpigmentation because they have supposedly banned the holy grail ingredient scientists have made which I can only get by paying extortionate prices at a private derm.
