[Misc] Do actives that are recommended here for PIH and hyperpigmentation work on very old dark spots from acne (10 years old)? Or are they more for making sure current acne doesn’t leave a dark spot?

I’ve been reading a lot here to learn how to treat the dark spots that I have from acne. My chin has quite a few dark spots from acne that I got almost 10 years ago. As I learn more, it sounds to me like the actives that work on this do so by turning over new skin cells quicker which reveals new skin cells that are not as pigmented. And then there is spf which helps to not darken the spots more. Is this correct?

So I can see how this would help with newer dark spots and current acne. But it’s not clear to me if very old dark spots can be eliminated.
