I'll have to find the post, but a while back, I posted about all the hoops I jumped through in order to get Retin-A. I have a lot working against me, including having no health insurance and no income. GoodRx didn't help, either. By the time I wrote that post, I thought I was in the home stretch, but I was very wrong. Every time I submitted a document, they'd ask for more. And the first time that happened, they just denied me instead of telling me what they still needed, and I had to submit an appeal in writing.
Long story short, I have been bending over backwards for this since August. And I finally got it! And they sent me not one, but THREE tubes!
Retin-A costs $900 dollars PER TUBE out of pocket. NINE HUNDRED. I've been trying to get my hand on a tube since AUGUST.
So, if you have no health insurance and no income, and you apply for the Bausch Patient Assistance Program, they want:
(1) A completed application, parts of which must be completed and signed by your doctor
(2) A Medicaid denial letter
(3) A letter from your doctor stating that you have no income
I'll add a pic later and try to find the earlier post if I think about it.
And as a side note, I tried other OTC chemical exfoliants, including several from The Ordinary, and they did nothing. So I'd like to refrain from routine advice if possible. :)
Edit:
I did not mean to make this a debate of sorts. This was a big victory for me, and I don't want to take away from that.
I think it's fair to say that it's just the particular pharmacy I went to that gave me that outrageous price. $900 is the price that the Kroger pharmacist gave me, and that includes the GoodRx discount. It may very well be cheaper elsewhere. Unfortunately, I still can't afford the generic. I also wasn't able to do any price-shopping at various pharmacies, because I don't drive due to health reasons. Yes, I could have called, but I didn't think Kroger would price-gouge me.
Edit #2:
Why all the downvotes? I just wanted to celebrate a victory!
Edit #3:
No, I am not committing disability fraud, as one user insisted. I'm not going to get into details about my medical history other than to say that I have a rare genetic disease, several comorbidities, two autoimmune diseases, a primary immune deficiency disease, and 4 mental illnesses. The only reason I even brought it up is because I was telling someone that I was working as hard as I can to get insurance, so that I hopefully won't have to go through Bausch PAP to get Retin-A in the future. Can we stop the witch hunt now please?
