I am a 32-year-old female, and I have had lots of ingrown hairs on the front of my neck for years. They cause scarring, and sometimes they turn into flesh-colored lumps. Also, I'm not sure if this is significant, but sometimes, I'll pull an ingrown hair out, and the very end of it splits into two or three hairs. I pulled one of them apart once, and it literally separated perfectly and easily into individual hairs. And the hairs are always coarse, wiry, jet black, and about 1 mm long. Small and very black. My scalp hair is long, light brunette and baby fine. So weird. I want to know why thsi is happening, and I want to know how to make it stop.
My Routine:
1. I cleanse my face and neck nightly with Neutrogena's orange liquid soap.
2. I moisturize my face and neck with Pond's.
3. I apply a medicated cream to small, isolated spots as needed for psoriasis. I almost never apply it to my neck. The cream is non-comedogenic.
Here's What You Need to Know:
* I do not shave my neck or use an epilator. Never have.
* I do not have ingrown hairs anywhere else.
* I do not have PCOS or thyroid issues.
* The salicylic acid in my cleanser does not reduce the ingrown hairs.
* I've done the compresses, the epsom salts, the natural/homemade remedies, and the exfoliants. They don't work.
* I've tried using a facial depilatory cream on my neck, and it doesn't even make a dent in my ingrown hairs (yeah, I know).
I thought about trying the ingrown hair products they have for men and their beards, but I don't know if that's a good idea. I also thought about a glycolic acid product, but that could get expensive, and I'm living on next to nothing. I've read that the Stridex pads in the red container work well, too. But why Stridex? It's just a salicylic acid medication, right? Or is it the BHA? And would I still moisturize afterward?
Sorry this was so long. I didn't see anything else in Reddit that addressed my specific issue, so I felt like I should ask. Thanks!!
