Question about Time reset/time loop in chap 154

SPOILER WARNING: isaac mentions in chap 154 that the gamble of his previous self failed. Skeleton soldier is confused cuz it seems like it succeeded. Isaac then tells him his previous self thought he (that past self) would be revived in the new loop. So my question is, are people who die in a previous life still themselves in the new life? Is the time loop a reset of the same timeline? Is isaac still Isaac? Does the loop not work in the way of pretty much reviving everyone by resetting everything? I thought it was like time-reversal or is that not how it works in this manhua?
