Sims 3 not launching

So I decided to download Sims 3 through Steam however when I play the game it won't launch. I just got a new computer a few months ago and it worked fine on the old one. Every time I would try to play it would boot up the launcher, then when I press play nothing would happen. I tried to see if I could go into the files and launch the game through their but it's not doing anything. The game isn't even booting up, just the launcher.
Not sure what's going on but can people help?
