I just binged season 1 and I can't help but feel like I'm missing something. I have not read the books but after the finale I literally couldn't help myself from reading the books' synopsis.
People keep rebelling because they think they're being lied to and kept in the Silo when outside is a lush and green place. The Silos are in fact in a wasteland as shown on the monitors.
It's like false suspicion is being planted inside the Silo which causes the paranoia and rebellions every few decades. Seems like many of IT's problems would be solved by being honest with the residents about why they are in the Silo? "Outside is toxic and we can't leave until it clears up in 500 years."
Is this done to throw residents off of the bigger plan that only 1 of the 50 Silos is meant to survive?
