So I am just getting into the hobby really, finally, after a long long time away (I used to play Warmahordes like 12 years ago).
I mostly want to focus on collecting, assembling, and eventually painting. But honestly, painting scares the crap out of me. Not the actual base coating, no. I can do that just fine.
Its stuff like dry brushing, or using washes / shade paints, or edge highlighting. And every time I try to find "newbie" tutorials they go into these things and my brain starts screaming about "I DONT UNDERSTAND ANY OF THIS"
I honestly have never been very artistic. I consider myself a decent writer. And the one time I did fully paint an army all those years ago (Trollbloods for Privateer Press game Hordes) I got mocked by the local community for how basic everything was...when they were literally my first ever minis. And admittedly I SHOULDNT let it bother me but it does even to this day >.>
How do you get over this? Do you just bite the bullet, mess up models, and hope for the best? I want to like painting as a stress free activity but I wonder if I will ever get over my anxiety of it.
