Today Iām feeling frustrated with our community and need to rant. It's disheartening to witness the fragmentation within the visually impaired community, especially considering the significant challenges we face in accessing necessary services and support. I've often reflected on this issue, and it's clear to me that this internal division hampers our collective advocacy efforts.
The lack of unity among advocacy groups exacerbates the problem. Instead of focusing on common goals and collaborative initiatives, these groups seem more preoccupied with ensuring the failure of their counterparts. A prime example of this is the simultaneous scheduling of conventions by organizations like the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and the American Council of the Blind (ACB), forcing individuals to choose between them.
This division not only dilutes our collective voice but also undermines our ability to effect meaningful change. It's frustrating to see resources and energy wasted on internal conflicts rather than channeling them towards advocating for the rights and needs of the visually impaired community as a whole.
