Lately, I've been thinking a lot about how accessible media is for different communities. It's got me wondering: why is it that closed captioning for the hearing impaired has been around since the 1970s, but finding audio described material is still a struggle?
I've noticed that while there's been great progress in making visual content accessible with closed captioning, it's not the same for folks who are blind or visually impaired. Finding audio described content can be tough, and it often feels like it's not a priority.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Why do you think there's such a difference between closed captioning and audio description? What do you think are the main barriers or challenges that contribute to the lack of audio described material?
