Wow I don’t know what to say, I’m so grateful for the people in this sub who have given their perspective on how to pass the exam. Also special thanks to Series 7 Guru and Capital Advantage for their incredible video content. I’m glad to provide all of you my story as well as knowledge of how to pass this test!
One thing I want to say is that your mileage may vary. Everybody is different not only in their study habits, but also about what they know/don’t know about the industry. So don’t take my word as bible, but I hoping you can learn something that will help you nonetheless.
Small background about me: I got my online MBA at Northeastern in the years prior to me studying for this test, which sounds like it may have helped a ton, but I think it only helped slightly to be honest. MBA’s do touch on some of the stuff but they are also more focused on a broad business education.
Advice:
What I did to study: I balled out and used Kaplan and Achievable. I found Kaplan to be the most valuable, although I prefer Achievable’s way of teaching the material with their online textbook. The beauty of Kaplan is their custom q-bank setting, you’ll see later in this post. In the beginning read the book and take notes, which is important to expand and broaden your knowledge of the material.
Don’t do this for too long, because next you are going to want to bang out practice questions over and over and over and over. MAKE SURE YOU TURN ON ANSWER EXPLAINATIONS! I cannot shout this from the rooftop enough. When you get a question wrong, it will tell you why the answer is the way it is right away.
It may be an ADHD thing, but that instant gratification is huge and allows you to LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES. When you get something wrong, write the explanation in your notes FOR THAT SECTION. So you get a question wrong about T-bills, write the thing you got wrong in the T-bill part of your notes. If you find you are weak on entire chapters, take quizzes only on that chapter until you get at least a 70.
Studying strategy is everything. It took me 2 months to actually get into my groove. Lastly about the material, know products really really well. I thought I knew products and then the test asked me something about T-bills that I had no idea. Go deep on products.
That’s all from me fam. Going to take a few days off and then it’s back to studying for the 7!
