Have the Sidemen decide who goes home based on challenge performances, money spent etc. and then announce it with one of them entering the house to inform the group.
Clearly, one of the biggest problems with the show atm based on this group is that spending doesn’t seem to have much of a penalty to it. That’s the issue with putting a bunch of people so out of touch that thousands of pounds is nothing to them (excluding Leah, Joe and Nife; they actually know the value of money) in a house and stripping them of their usual privileges. They don’t actually care about the prize fund since they have shitloads in their bank accounts anyway. We’ve seen that through the group pissing away £400k in 48 hours. That is enough money to change the lives of countless people and they just don’t care.
A way to deter spending is vitally needed if the Sidemen want the show to succeed past this first season, since the whole point is to try to keep a solid amount of money in the pot at the end. The final isn’t going to feel all that climactic if there’s less than 100k left in the pot come day 8, and that’s the way it’s looking like going right now. Having the Sidemen choose who goes home based on a weakest link system (analysing who performs worst in challenges, spends the most, etc.) creates an incentive for the contestants to perform well in challenges (tbf this group aren’t too bad for that) and resist the urge to spend, because frivolous spending on a day where everyone performed roughly equally in the challenge could mean you’re out.
This form of elimination doesn’t remove the drama either, as there will come points when people just can’t resist the temptation. Making the celebs actually have to deal with the rice and beans because constant spending can get them axed will definitely make some contestants irritable as time goes on, meaning bust ups could just as easily happen. It also gives the temptation room more weight as people not being able to spend as much would make them more susceptible to the temptation, and people would be quicker to catch on to someone lying about not taking the temptation.
