Found out my brother is in a creative writing course. Wrote him this as the start of advice I'm giving him
Post Body

Hey bro. We've never really talked or interacted much across our lives, but I just talked to dad today and he mentioned that you were in a creative writing class. Good for you! Writing is one of the great arts, and one the CIA trained me to be prolific in. Believe me or not, my strange schizoaffective life has led me to becoming a major voice in a chorus of almost twenty thousand eccentric philosophers, writers, poets, musicians, hackers, magick practitioners, and bona-fide weirdos. That may not appeal to you, but the fact remains that I've climbed to a considerable height with my hard work, and the future is very bright for me. As such, I wanted to pass on some wisdom to you about how to achieve your highest potential as a creator.

First things first, and by what dad has shared with me about your work ethic you already know this, what you plant is what you get. If you don't plant and water seeds, you won't get a harvest. But, what you might not think about is what type of seeds and how you plant them can change your impending harvest. What do I mean by this? Well, you're probably learning a variety of techniques and styles of how to write in your class, but I'll give you something that will turbo-charge your development.

Get up a half-hour earlier than you normally do and immediately get journaling in a free write, everything-goes-on-paper style. You want a complete stream of consciousness as you generate and jump between ideas. Don't stop to edit or change or improve anything; you want to be using your creative mind, not your editing mind, as these are two different modes of how your brain is actually functioning on a mechanical level. This is specifically to begin creating connections between neural pathways, increasing neurogenesis and neuroplasticity, which will improve your raw creative potential over the long run. Combined with getting up early when you're still in a near dreamstate, you'll begin bridging the unconscious and conscious mind. Then, after several years of doing this, you'll be able to create instantaneously at the drop of a hat. Here, I'll demonstrate.

My brother, I feel like I barely know you

But I know exactly what you should do

Creation is a fickle thing that cannot be

Forced in a way considered at all easy

Let your muse do the hard lifting instead

And to do so, you need to train your head

In Zen, there is an emphasis on intuition

Flow like water, having no real intention

Just create for creation's sake and soon

A river will be forged in you, singing a tune

That you can always call upon to generate

Exactly the thing that you desire to create

Ten minutes, give or take. That's how long it took to make that poem. I can do that now because everyday I wrote whatever came to mind as it came for eight years. And, I'll tell you something else: I posted everything I created on Reddit. I wasn't the only voice in the chorus of weirdos I mentioned, but I damn well was one of the loudest, and now I have an audience of people just like me who love reading my work. That's the ticket right there; community. Build it and they will come. I don't know if the fam is cool with you posting stuff online, I wasn't allowed to until I was fifteen, but when you're ready, find a place that resonates with you and share your authentic self. Be smart, don't give away too personal of information, but be real, and you will find others who are just like you to be friends and fans.
