Paying for online dating apps is an ugly tax.

It's like Dante's 9 circles of mildly infuriating.

I said 'paying', not just being present on a dating app.

Many goods are taxed, and many economists refer to the extra cost of certain goods or services depending on a person's socio-economic situation as a tax.

There's the 'pink tax' for goods and services marketed towards women, and for feminine hygiene products.

The lottery is often referred to as a tax on the poor.

The extra cost for lending/pay day loans, as well as the high cost of healthy foods in poorer neighborhoods is often referred to as the 'poor tax'..

So basically, you're wrong.

Mostly you just get to see all the people in foreign countries that have liked you and want you to send them money for their sick water buffalo.

You don't have to buy anything that is taxed either, but if you want to buy certain things, they're taxed. There's all sorts of taxes. Prepared meal tax, luxury goods tax, etc., etc., etc.

So yes, it could be considered a tax.
