After finally finishing Baldur's Gate 3, I was wondering what RPG to play next. Of course, I could replay Baldur's Gate 3 for content that I have missed, but I want to start a different game as I don't want to get burnt out. The two games that came to mind were Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077. I was thinking of getting Starfield because it's the next big RPG coming from a triple a studio, and Cyberpunk 2077 as the new update and DLC will come out soon that could potentially redeem the game.
Although these are games to be excited about, I'm just wary of any disappointment that I could feel when playing one of these games. Baldur's Gate 3 provided the most complete package in a $60 dollar game that I have played. The RPG and core mechanics were in-depth, the combat was fun, the reactive world was interesting, and the story was captivating. It spoiled me to the point that it's hard for me to accept anything from a multimillion triple a studio.
I've read and watched reviews from both games and it seems positive on both ends, more so for Starfield. However, they do share some similar problems. The one thing I'm mostly worried about is the shallowness these games could provide. Similar problems that I've heard and read were core mechanics and gameplay does not provide enough solidity for an RPG. Stats are often percentages and don't add new gameplay, and choices sometimes don't mean anything. World building is often good and provides enough immersiveness for gamers, so that's something I'm looking forward to. But bugs and glitches can often break the immersion as is often seen in Bethesda and CDPR games (Sometimes these are accepted as it's what makes a game a game, but I think it's mediocre acceptance from a triple a company, especially Bethesda).
In truth, I want to get one of these games because I'm impulsive and want to play something while I wait for other games to come. Should I keep my expectations low and play the game for what it is or look for other games that could be better than these options? Tell me anything I should look out for and what to keep in mind.
Extra: I've played Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, The Witcher 2 and 3, so I know what I could get from these companies. I just want a good reason for which games I could invest in as game prices are going up and becoming more expensive.
Final conclusion: Thanks for the recommendations and suggestions, people. After looking further into it, I think I'll go for Cyberpunk 2077 AND then get Starfield way later (maybe on sale). I think the new content for Cyberpunk 2077 is what intrigues me the most, as well as the smaller scale of it. Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC are on sale at the moment on the GOG store, so another reason to buy it right now. Starfield is really intriguing, but I think it's better to wait for DLCs and patches to come so that the game can be a better investment. I also think that a larger scale will be harder and longer to digest so I'll get that game when I'm waiting for another anticipated video game to come out.
