TL;DR: Yelled and cursed at a friend who was a first time shooter for having his finger on the trigger while he had my glock at the low-ready
My father was an LEO and a gulf war vet, and I’m an active duty grunt so yelling, cursing and threats to beat my ass has been part of pretty much my entire of my upbringing as a shooter
Went home on leave a while ago and took two friends who’d never shot before to the range. During our session they repeatedly made some common safety violations such as:
-Keeping my rifle on fire after shooting
-Having their booger hooks on the trigger at the ready position or when not sighted in (thankfully never got flagged)
The only thing that really bothered me was the finger on the trigger since they were good with keeping the weapons down range, and the weapons were clearly unloaded despite being on fire.
Friend A (Had only known him for maybe 3 hours at that point,) had my glock (which has no safety mechanism, mind you,) in the low ready position, his finger was on the trigger. I had already reminded him several times to NOT do that so I just let out a quick burst of “GET YOUR FUCKING FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER!” he fixed himself real quick and never made another safety violation after that.
I didn’t feel bad till friend B was making jokes about that specific moment then I realized, these guys don’t get yelled at all the time
I’ve learned to not take the yelling or cursing personal when it’s happening to me, so that’s why I was so loose about doing it to other people, until I realized these guys probably aren’t used to it lol so I feel like I kinda ruined friend A’s first range experience, lol.
