Hey all! I'm going up to Alaska for a couple months for seasonal work and, after my contract is up, I'm hoping to stay for a bit and travel as much (and for as little) as possible.
Here's the thing: I'd love to explore in the back country (I'm experienced with hiking, although I'm certainly a nice when it comes to Alaska's definition of "Backcountry") but generally just want to see and experience as much as possible. I'm also totally open to any kind of vagabonding/dirtbagging/hitchhiking adventures. But trying to decide which to pack and plan for is problematic, because hiking would add quite a bit to the already limited space I have for packing everything in one bag my work gear.
For reference: I have an Osprey Farpoint 40L (for travel), Exos 55L (for backpacking), and also an old travel/hiking 60L bag that combines both but is a hefty 7lbs on its own.
Any thoughts, Alaska specific suggestions, or general advice is appreciated! I leave Thursday, so if I'm adjusting what I bring to accommodate the back country, I'll have to do it fast :)
