I am a virtualization expert with 40 years in the field. Our company needs high availability DC’s, so we have an ESXi cluster that uses Hyper-V which has nested Proxmox inside of that. Just for redundancy, I have domain controllers installed on all 3 of these environments. At first I thought this was foolproof by using 3 different vendors. But then I realized the error of my ways and if ESXi takes a crap I’m done. So then I installed Hyper-V on another box and installed ESXi on that and Proxmox inside that. Each has a DC, so now I manage 6 DC’s and 6 VM’s but it’s totally worth it. These servers aren’t going down and if they do, I’ll just build another one, install Proxmox and do some more VM nesting for good measure. Every time I realize I have a good idea, I think someone else probably already has done this. Now I’m going to bet that this is completely standard and everyone does this. Just wanted to share my experience.
