Going by the belief that people work better under pressure and also to make her bridge have more dramatic ambiance, Captain Burnham had a refit of Discovery to add braziers to the back wall of the bridge so that when they go to red alert they periodically give off controlled-and-not-at-all-dangerous bursts of flame. She also had electrical spark showers installed in the hallways leading to the bridge, for similar dramatic aesthetic reasons. These features are designed for maximum aesthetics but minimum danger to the occupants, and set on periodic timers so they go off no less often than every 10 seconds, although the flame bursts are on an approximate 15-20 second timer.
