Would you support anti-obesity ads in NZ media similar to anti-smoking ads?
Anti fat is a lot better than the emerging fat acceptance. [ 7]
This is problematic because it is trying to solve the problem in the wrong way. Shaming people for being fat does not help, in fact it makes things worse, as many people use eating as a coping mechanism, and will end up gaining more weight instead of losing it. Reference. Reference 2
Yes. [ 83]
(Plus a whole lot of similar comments saying the same thing, linked to the highest voted one)
Not hardline enough, show some obese person lying on a hospital bed gasping for air and clutching at their chest as the nurse struggles to find a vein for the IV through all the fat. [ 13]
Weird how it's socially acceptable to shame someone for smoking and clogging the health system, but not ok to do the same for obesity [ 8]
More shaming is not the answer, less shaming is. Shaming does not help solve problems. Education does.
Yes. The tears of ten thousand fatties crying out in anger will fuel my workouts. [ 10]
But muh triggurz! [ 2]
Because attacking people with post traumatic stress disorder is somehow relevant to obesity?
Yes, preferably with the same shock tactics as the drink driving and smoking campaigns. [ 7]
That. That would upset many people, but it'd get the message across. [ 5]
The reality of being obese should upset people. [ 11]
And a focus on dispelling fat logic with it [ 4]
I am totally for having shock advertising on the implications of being obese. [ 3]
will be too late if that health at every size/fat acceptance bullshit takes root here. If they are going to do it, they had better do it quick. [ 3]
Better not expect the healthy system to look after you then, and extra disability car parks because you're too fat to walk all the way across the car park.[ 8]
Reddit.com, where social welfare only only for Straight White men (but not the ones that actually need it of course)
Let people make an educated decision and let the spirit of Charles Darwin do the rest. [ 1]
#JustSTEMThings
Babbling nonsense. All you do is to normalize fatness. "Lets not point out to fat people that its wrong to be fat, it will hurt their feelings". Tough love is the best. [ 1]
