I am back. Because I read what may be the most misogynistic thread I've ever, ever read anywhere and I need you guys to jerk about it with me. The female equivalent of a neckbeard is a Not-Like-Those-Other-Girls girl. Yeah, you're a female, but you're not like... you know, those other girls. Other girls are stupid and vapid, and only care about boys and shopping. Other girls only watch Sex and the City, and their favorite activities are gossiping and stabbing each other in the back. Other girls are sluts who wear tacky clothes and too much make-up and have no self-respect.

You're not like that. You watch anime (subs only, of course) and play video games. You don't read Twilight or any of those shitty paranormal romance novels. You read comic books and ASoIaF (which you liked before the show, tyvm). You'd rather fling yourself off an overpass than wear something girly or pink. All your friends are guys, and they know you're one of them; you're one of the cool girls. You're smarter than all those ditzy popular girls, and that makes you better than them. This sounds like a more appropriate description than simply fat and/or hairy women. It seems to be a self-righteous person with a defiant superiority complex who tries to cover their perceived lack of social acceptance by taking up perceived socially unacceptable or 'alternative' activities.

This is followed by an enormous chain of highly upvoted comments where everyone singularly failed to understand that what this is describing, even in its extreme, caricature way, is INTERNALISED MISOGYNY. You know why lots of women try to say they are "not-like-those-other-girls"? It's because LITERALLY EVERYTHING IN THEIR LIVES tells them that to be "like a girl" is to be weak. It's to be uninteresting. It's to be overly emotional and secondary and boring. And not a single one of these commenters seems to grasp that there might be a social reason for some women to want to distance themselves from things associated with, ya know, women. That group whose stuff you hate, society. The group who makes up over 50% of the population but whose culture still has to be prefaced with words like "chick" or "fem" or "girly". Who have to have a special pink-tinged newspaper section full of stories about family and domesticity because that is their sphere, and the people in the population -- the men -- should have that section clearly demarcated so they don't have to give it a glance on their way to read about how Aston Villa did last night.

Even if you look past her pompous facade and try to talk to her, you find she has little to say. She only talks about herself and her friends and their private in-jokes. She constantly makes pop culture references to her favorite tv shows and movies, and if you don't understand them all, then she rolls her eyes and stomps away indignantly. (5)

I'm bolded some shit in that wall of filth because I want to call it out specifically, and I also cut some of it because it was huge and awful. If you're really interested, I assure you that I haven't cherry-picked. It's all that bad. So, (1) She doesn't take care of herself to this redditor's standards of beauty, which are of course universal. (2) She doesn't wear makeup that this redditor likes. But he's not obsessed with standards of beauty. She is. (3) Breaking the jerk: Fuck you. Just, fuck you. You are not the arbiter of her sexuality. You have no right to tell her what she can and can't identify as. We are not sexuality-less until we've gained some requisite amount of experience that you get to decide. You want to call yourself a bisexual? You fucking go for it. We've got a damn big tent and we're not checking IDs. (4) Oh, a woman has impossible beauty standards? That shit cray.
