I usually do orders from Target in my northern metro, but today, I kept getting offers from my mid-town Target. I usually Shipt there about 2-3 times a week max, and may go an entire 2-3 weeks without orders from this location.
Well today, I went back 5 times in a row. I had a mix of pre-paid and regular Shipt orders. My very last order of the day was a prepaid. At this Target, I’ve had employees meticulously check my cart during the audit, and I’ve also had employees barely look at the items.
The employee didn’t even look at my cart.
Immediately, two security guards approached me. And they were SO smooth (and admittedly super polite). They didn’t accuse me of theft, one just asked what I thought about Shipt, because they were thinking about maybe doing it, too. The other guard stood to my immediate left where they could see my cart.
I told the one asking what I thought, how I had worked X hours today and made X$ already, and that wasn’t including tips yet...if you do become a shopper, estimate 20-25% tax rate on your earnings. I said it’s been nice during the pandemic to have something to do since all my friends and family live elsewhere. I also told them my customers were, for the most part, always super nice (a few don’t seem to understand that I don’t control what is in stock, but eh...). They kept chatting for a bit, got a message over their ear piece, and then whispered something back (I’m hard of hearing and we were all wearing masks, so I have no idea what it was since I couldn’t read their lips).
Anyway, they both politely excused themselves to “go talk to this guy over there who’s stealing”.
I think I am a genuinely good shopper. I scan every item and am super meticulous. If I have a prepaid order and I cannot add a produce item, I purchase it with my own funds so that the customer can still get what they need.
I know I shouldn’t be, but I am now SUPER paranoid. My dog sitting business has gone tits up since no one is traveling, and Shipt is a great way for me to make additional funds. I went back to shop for myself after my last order (I needed groceries), and while right beside them, I knocked an item off of a display. They didn’t even make eye contact with me while I took it up to an employee and apologized, so I think that was telling...
I think I’ll stick to just a couple orders here and there from this location for the time being 😳
