Another Reason to love Attack on Titan: It Writes Better Women than Marvel (New Episode Spoilers)
Post Body

One thing that I think deserves more mention is how AoT handled its female characters. Where a lot of manga and anime insert fanservicey wifus all over, nobody stuck out like that in the anime (I didn't read the manga but assuming it's the same). As a good example of the difference, the scene with Ymir stargazing after becoming human again was absolutely beautiful; it didn't really register that she was naked. I was way more focused on the beauty of music and the background scenery. It was refreshing to see something get insanely popular without unrealistic boobs or jiggle physics.

Character-wise, all of the important female cast members had compelling arcs: Christa went from a timid girl getting kidnapped to a proud Queen Historia literally slapping sense into Eren and dealing the finishing blow to a massive Titan (breaking away from her manipulative father at the same time). Annie went from closed-off warrior to someone who wanted nothing more then to see her father one last time.

Sasha went from what initially seemed like an exclusively goofy side character to skilled sniper and developed character with a death that hit really hard. Gabi went from cheerful kid, to hate-filled warrior, and then back to some form of her original self in the end after realizing "the enemy devils" were human too.

That's not to mention Mikasa, who deserves her own long post like this imo. Her feelings for Eren somewhat dulled her incredible skill, but she become someone who was able to act despite her feelings, dealt the final blow that stopped Eren's rampage, and saved both the Eldians from the Power of Titans and all of humanity from being trampled. If anyone wants a good picture of how to write a strong female character, look to Mikasa Ackerman.

This show had a lot to love, and I'd gladly take Mikasa, Annie, Historia, or any of AoT's female cast over Captain Marvel anyday.
