If they're going to stick with canon, then Irene Adler is no more. And seriously, it'll be bad enough if Moriarty is back from the dead, bringing back Irene Adler as well will just be the nail in the coffin. There are so many stories and characters to pick from in these stories, it's lazy to keep recycling the same people. I understand that these were great characters played by fantastic actors, but we need to let go...seriously
We don't know any of that yet. Fact is, they generally stay pretty true to canon and remained so this season for the most part, so I wouldn't say canon is irrelevant.
I think we're actually on the same side and just having a misunderstanding
I think so, too and I think I was trying to express that, but I am a little foggy today, so my thoughts aren't coming out as clearly as I'd like them to. :)
Sure. I get that. There's tweaking canon which they've done since the beginning of the series. But then there is just flat out throwing it out the window and overusing characters who's time is finished, just because fans like them, which was more the point I was trying to make in regard to Dumb_Luck_Guy's theory that Irene was behind the MoriartyCast. Basically, what I was trying to say was that I hope they don't deviate so far that they start bringing people back from the dead or from exile to appease fans.
I think it may be Sebastian Moran, too. The Empty Hearse gave us a "Moran" baddie, but I don't think it was the proper Moran...they may be saving it for later.

I never said she died, I just said the character is done, as far any more plot involving her is concerned.
Edit: Expanded thought
