When it comes to the use of plant medicine (specifically through coca leaf, tobacco, and ayahuasca) in South America, Peru always seems to be the go-to answer in terms of geographical region. Many of the more well-known Ayahuasca temples, retreats, etc. are based in Peru, and usually gain more international recognition than those in other countries where similar practices are utilized, such as Colombia and Ecuador. From my own research, they tend to have more resources than those of their regional neighbors as well in the form of capital investment by foreigners in the region.
Of course, the boundaries of native tribes and communities within these regions are not limited to the borders of modern countries, and there is much overlap in this regard for tribes living in different countries. Nonetheless, I'm curious to know if there are any resources in the form of books, research, or other posts regarding tribes specifically in Ecuador and Colombia, and in the greater region.
Ultimately, my goal is to apprentice under a shaman in the region and I'm trying to gather as many resources on the topic before I do. Here is a great post about finding an authentic ayahuasca experience in Peru; I'd love to find similar info concerning tribes, shaman, etc. in Colombia and Ecuador as well; https://www.reddit.com/r/Ayahuasca/comments/v8tea3/the_ultimate_guide_to_authentic_peruvian/
Note: I'm aware that the territory of such tribes also extends well into Brazil. Personally, Spanish is a much more accessible language to communicate through, although of course these tribes all have their own Native languages.
Hoping this post can be a good resource for others who are similarly interested, thanks!
