A random thought popped into my head today, reminding me about a fan cybereye for Cyberpunk 2020 that allowed the medtech to use X-rays (or something like them) generated from the cybereye to scan the patient and get a 1 bonus to medical related rolls.
It sounded awesome at the time, but as I aged I started to question all sorts of things about the concept, such as the power requirements to generate high energy rays, the amount of radiation to the patient/ people around the doctor/ the doctor themself, and other such things and pack them into an eyeball amount of space and still have the gear leftover to do the regular seeing part let alone the sensors to see the rays and map them into something a doctor could use/understand.
Seemed like too much tech for 2020 even in that setting.
But it got me thinking that Shadowrun is farther in the future (and cooler) and has magic also. Which caused me to wonder how much medical technology could you pack in a state of the art cybereye.
I see two types of people that would want such an insane and expensive package.
1: A top Docwagon specialist to be used as a selling point to CEOs for their ultra super premium orichalcum package. Kidnapped? In a firefight during the rescue Dr. McDragon will fix you right up.
2: A government special ops team doctor. Sure most of the time this will be military but some espionage government organizations will also run black ops. Either way a bloated budget can afford to put this thing into a special operator with medical training, to keep a special ops team on their feet, and may be holding a gun and firing while trying to scan a teammate, and also may require going through checkpoints where various gear including medical tech would alert people but a cybereye could be passed off.
So given the tech of the setting, how much medical gear could you pack into a cybereye, if cost wasn't an issue?
