What are your tips to prevent last minute cancellations?

I'm an independent full-service provider and I use calendly in my website to make things easier.
While it's easy to sched this way, I see a sad trend of last minute cancellations if the appointment was booked this way.
I'm so close to adding a US$10 booking fee (thinking refundable or not) to prevent no-shows and last minute cancellations .
Before I do this, I wanna hear how the SW hive mind deals with this!
