I know every so often people will post threads about avoiding certain areas. I know Charlotte, San Diego and a couple others have been talked about. But holy smokes: a market that has become impossible for me is KC clientele, and that speaks almost for the entire Missouri area.
Just today, I was willing to meet a return client for an amount I can’t disclose: but it was very minimal. Like, a deposit amount. I don’t even get out the house, he canceled saying don’t come he’s changed his mind. Then blocks me. This makes like the 4th failed appointment inquiry by different people this week.
At one point in time, bookings in Kansas City were “okay”. Not great because it’s been a notoriously flaky town for me. But this place has fell off tremendously. I’m pretty much not even getting anyone serious anymore hardly. The few I get, only want to pay some stupidly obscene rate: like $50 or $100. My regulars have constantly wasted my time, and it seems like the same rotation of clients week after month after year. They’ll hit me up, flake out, come back months or even YEARS later only to do the same thing.
I am experiencing one of the worst monetary crisis probably ever in my time in the industry. And I’ve been thru bad times before, but this I just can’t take. If I could drop and walk away from the biz right now, I would. But the only solution for now is to pack up and leave. Which I have, but since the silly clients of Kansas City hardly ever keep their appointments: I have struggled all month to get the money necessary to get away from here.
And I know there’s cities within 3-4 hours of here, but non of those are really jumping off like they’re supposed to either. I’ve been advertising St. Louis and even though it gets me a little more hits: they’ve been spotty and the level of follow up is low. I also watch the ads just to ensure it’s not just me: it isn’t. There’s not many consistent providers advertised. I’ll see them for a couple months, then they’re replaced by another set of people trying it out. And I can imagine it’s due to not enough serious people.
Cheers to hopefully relocating to a new city/state next year 🥂 or at the very least: some some fate of luck that brings me a bunch of serious business here
