You either had to know someone who knew someone, roam the streets and if you asked someone, hope they don't get offended if they weren't actually a working girl, or risk it by going to a "club" and see if the were working gave extras.

I don't think there are many providers left that remember a time before the internet when providing. Everyone is so young compared to when I got started.
