Vr device to sync with my phone?

I'm having trouble searching for answers on line for this. I was wondering if there is a vr headset I can use with my phone (not the clip your phone in the headst style), or if I need a computer? And either way what's a good "budget" headset for either application. My eyes are pretty jacked up so I didn't want to spend a fortune to find out I can't use it. Thanks in advance!
