Never thought I'd be making such a review, but here we are. As far as music, crowd, and vibe goes, Berghain Sundays is my thing, but I've been to Gegen at KK a number of times in the past, as well as once for the typical Carneball party. A fuckbuddy invited me, so I thought why not.

We arrived around midnight, no queue at the street, an obvious rejection before us, and then we joined the small queue to get in. I was surprised at the door costing 25€ for a one room party with unremarkable lineup, but my date was paying.

Inside was a bit of what I predicted, for better and worse. The hosptial area was in full-swing with bdsm receivers and voyeurs. So many watching that the corridor was a consistent traffic bottleneck. Lots of dress-up kinky black outfits, some sex, etc. I was surprised to not really hear any psytrance music, but perhaps I was expecting full-on goa fraggle stuff. The music started out better than I was expecting, but would evolve to be terrible (techno in the broadest umbrella term possible). The people I met were nice. The crowd was more queer than I expected, including a couple of black guys that i wondered if thy had meant to go to Revolver! The biggest problem was the, sigh, solo wanker phenomenon.

Seriously, promoters, club, get a grip on this. I won't go back because these desperate losers ruin things for everyone else. One had the audacity to put a condom on as if he was about to get invited. The guy of one of the couples I talked to (talking to to be social, not trying to swap or anything) said they never play there because the wankers steal his mojo. It shouldn't be up to each promoter to figure this out on their own.

A secondary problem were the toilets.The main reason I go to talking with one couple was that it took forever for my date to use them. I left her side once the queue entered the toilet room. the queue went halfway down the hallway to where the stairs to the pool bar are.

Going helped me really appreciate the experiences i have at Berghain or private parties. It also helped my understand the role kitkat has. In general, I don't think the djs booked for the club are any good. Overall, the crowd was also full of simple people. I realize how much of an asshole snob I sound saying this. However, the people there were having fun. and aside from the solo wankers, able to live out their sexy selves and I don't want to take that away from them. If anyone reads this and wonders whether they should go, I still say to give it a try, particularly if you aren't too particular about your taste in electronic music or wonder if you are "edgy" enough.
