New SO seeking a better understanding of registry enforcement

Hi everyone,

I have a couple of quick questions. I am fortunate in that I received a short sentence (just over a year) and no probation. I am out and living in New York. However, I must register as a SO, hence my post. I will not be violating any of the rules of the registry, but do have a couple of logistical questions about the enforcement of the rules of the registry.

1) I understand if you visit another state, you must abide by that states rules. For example, if you visit Illinois (just picking a random state) for more than 3 days, on the 4th day in Illinois you must register in Illinois. Say you were in Illinois on day 4 and hadn't yet registered, and were pulled over for a speeding ticket. How on earth do they know that it is your 4th day in Illinois? I don't get it.

2) Similarly, I can't enter the children's section of a library (haven't been in a children section of a library since I was a child, so no worries there). However, lets say I went in there (again, not going to do this). How the hell do they know I went in there?

I guess my question, which I'm phrasing poorly is, how does a given state know you did or didn't do any of the potential violations of the registry? I understand if you're part of a community and it's KNOWN that you're an SO, someone who sees you in a 'bad place' could report you to the police. But if people don't know, how do you get in trouble for it?

Again, and apologies for being repetitive, I'm not under any circumstances going to commit any of these violations. I just don't get how it works. It seems...impossible? Appreciate the advice, thank you.
