There have been a ton of posts lately very critical of Bela. I would agree that Bela should not have slept with Dan; cheating on Eric was wrong and bad and she should feel bad about it. But I have seen some posts bemoaning the lack of "consequences" she's faced (despite losing Eric and being embarrassed in front of her comedy coworkers) or just repeatedly hammering home how bad and wrong she is. This is troubling because many of the other characters have messed up as much (or even more than Bela) and not faced "consequences" yet do not have posts like this written about them.
The best example I can think of is Nico. He made the same mistake as Bela (cheating) but worse. He cheated on two people over the course of multiple weeks or months. At first it looked like maybe he would have a"consequence" outside of romantic contexts, in that he was kicked out of school. But the show was quick to put him in another ivy league school seemingly unscathed. I do not recall seeing a single post about his lack of consequences.
Leighton, after sleeping with multiple people, learned she had an STD. Her plan was to not disclose this to any of her partners, allowing the STD to spread rapidly and denying people important info about their health. Her "consequence" was a somewhat public confrontation (which Bela had as well) in front of sorority sisters. But she still got into the sorority, and all seems to be well. Certainly not a major consequence for what she did.
Other characters have also made mistakes, and we could argue over whether they suffered appropriate consequences. But the point is, on this sub no character gets nearly the amount of judgment as Bela. I think it would be helpful to look inward and ask why.
