Please hear me out on this one 😅
I think the show poorly handled the Ryan situation by making Bela one of his victims. And that’s not because Bela is super sexual. I understand they were trying to put out the message that “being sexually expressive doesn’t give people the right to assault you”, and I completely agree.
HOWEVER I find it hard to differentiate the way Bela acts with people with the way Ryan acted with her.
As far as we know, Ryan: -surprised bela with a porno
-showed Carla his dick
-pressed his dick against Bela (he didn’t seem to press further, but we don’t know what he’d have done if she didn’t leave)
But Bela: -Takes naked pictures of people without their consent
-Steals underwear without permission
-walks around naked which clearly makes her roommates uncomfortable
-propositions multiple members of the Catullan for handjobs (which was consensual, but we don’t see how it started)
-Stalked Eric to his home multiple times
-kisses Eric without warning (which ended up being consensual, but it was unprovoked like Ryan pressing against Bela was)
Like maybe I’m not looking at this the right way, but I feel like it hurts the stance the show was trying to take since Bela is celebrated for stuff Ryan was burned for. Granted, maybe the defining difference is Ryan’s position as a co-editor on the staff. Please chime in if you have an opinion!
