This is one of the main issues I’ve had with the show since Season 1. Like there’s a certain way to be gay for it to be acceptable. That’s what made Leighton so refreshing in the beginning. Yes, she was closeted but she loved women sexually because hello lesbians are gay because they like women. But I have seen it played out in season 1 and the end of season 2. Good lesbian means fighting for the rights of everyone and everything, calling out bullies, I’m out so you should be too and making being gay your entire personality. Bad lesbian is being apolitical, calling out obnoxious behavior in the LGBT community (like Leighton did in S1), not wanting to involve yourself in certain aspects of said community, etc. Leighton staying in Kappa and becoming a voice of inclusion in that environment (because there are LGBT sorority and fraternity members) is a far more interesting (and potentially hilarious) storyline in S3 than sticking her in the women’s center with the same tired gay jokes. What y’all think?
