It’s not a “small, rural, poor town” by any definition. It’s an affluent, rapidly-growing suburb with a higher population than Richmond, Virginia. It has a higher population than the town Bela’s from.

And it’s like 20% Hispanic, so idk what’s the deal with Kimberly and family never meeting a non-white person and never trying Mexican food. Admittedly, its percentage of black people in the population isn’t that high, but it’s not so low that Kimberly would never have met a black person before adulthood.

They should’ve just said she was from North Dakota or Iowa or someplace. It fits her character a lot better.
