The thing that pisses me off most about the writersâ decision to make Kim and Canaan have feelings for each other is that we couldnât just have had a platonic friendship? To be honest I never saw the chemistry and hints yâall claim of (I know they were there because some people have pointed examples out but it just wasnât convincing to me even upon rewatch considering all Canaan ever says to her was ââŚOkay.â) and Iâll just have to accept that their moments were supposed to be read ~romantically~ despite me always taking his little comments as him just being grossed out by the girl talk with Lila/ just not wanting to know about his coworkerâs sex life. Their dynamic honestly came off very sibling-like to me.
But if Iâm being real Iâm most annoyed about the fact that their relationship became romantic. There were so many funny casual coworker moments between them, the trio with Lila, and them just giving advice to each other that I genuinely enjoyed! I think itâs okay to have a friend of the opposite sex when youâre straight and not want to fuck them. I believe Canaan and Kimâs relationship was the only guy/girl pairing that was platonic and they had to ruin it by writing in feelings. It felt forced. Yâall can get on me and say itâs realistic to crush on coworkers, that theyâre in college, and that itâs called the sex lives but itâs just a personal preference and we know the show doesnât just deal with sex. Itâs just disappointing to me bc straight guys and girls can absolutely just be friends.
