My take on Canaan and Kimberly

Post Body

The thing that pisses me off most about the writers’ decision to make Kim and Canaan have feelings for each other is that we couldn’t just have had a platonic friendship? To be honest I never saw the chemistry and hints y’all claim of (I know they were there because some people have pointed examples out but it just wasn’t convincing to me even upon rewatch considering all Canaan ever says to her was “…Okay.”) and I’ll just have to accept that their moments were supposed to be read ~romantically~ despite me always taking his little comments as him just being grossed out by the girl talk with Lila/ just not wanting to know about his coworker’s sex life. Their dynamic honestly came off very sibling-like to me.

But if I’m being real I’m most annoyed about the fact that their relationship became romantic. There were so many funny casual coworker moments between them, the trio with Lila, and them just giving advice to each other that I genuinely enjoyed! I think it’s okay to have a friend of the opposite sex when you’re straight and not want to fuck them. I believe Canaan and Kim’s relationship was the only guy/girl pairing that was platonic and they had to ruin it by writing in feelings. It felt forced. Y’all can get on me and say it’s realistic to crush on coworkers, that they’re in college, and that it’s called the sex lives but it’s just a personal preference and we know the show doesn’t just deal with sex. It’s just disappointing to me bc straight guys and girls can absolutely just be friends.
