Post Body

Orwen Graceford was a minor trader who was active mainly in the Stormlands area and often ventured to Essos. He allegedly wed one Nyla Brakker somewhere near the Dornish March. They had 2 sons in quick succession, Olivar and Bryden. Orwen stayed put in the area for a while. Bad luck however led to the near depletion of his finances, and when his sons were both over the age of 12, he opted to move his trading business to King’s Landing to have better access to international trade routes and lucrative deals. He took Olivar and Bryden along with him. While Olivar, at 14, was quite content to get out into the world and learn at the side of his father, Bryden didn’t take it all too well. Orwen’s attitude towards the wayward younger son didn’t help either - at best he expressed contempt towards Bryden’s homesickness. After a year in King’s Landing, one night Bryden disappeared while Olivar and Orwen were away at the market. Whether he ran away or got abducted remained a mystery, as no clues ever emerged. And frankly, Orwen didn’t seem to put much effort into it. A few days after the incident he caught wind of a golden trade venture in Oldtown and the pair took off - Orwen with glee and Olivar still rather distraught.

As shaken as Olivar had been by the disappearance of Bryden however, it was all wiped from his mind by the sight of the great Citadel appearing on the horizon. Nothing could have prepared him for that experience - even the sprawling King’s Landing had felt like a measly achievement of human creation compared to this great spire protruding from the face of the earth to meet the sky. Olivar was still intrigued to participate in negotiating the golden deal with his father but the sound of coins in his pouch had lost its magic - it now seemed like a mere means to an end. He saw monuments in his mind - physical memories of his existence. With the ghost of Oldtown haunting him, Olivar spent nearly a decade traveling wherever he could with his father, learning tricks of trade, all the while investing a part of his profits into meetings with maesters and acquiring books on ancient builders and modern techniques.

This routine would end when Orwen unexpectedly died of an infection while on the road. To his own surprise, Olivar felt no remorse - he hurriedly buried his father and continued on the venture. It would quickly appear that he didn’t have quite the knack for the profession as his father had had. Perhaps the fault was in his head, his mind still building Citadels in the clouds, or perhaps his father’s informants hadn’t come to like him quite as much. One thing was clear - it was probably for the better to exit that world and start doing what he felt was his duty to the world.

Without any other missions in mind and feeling no particular attachment to any other place, Olivar decided to venture back south to his homelands. A part of him hoped that he might one day relocate his mother and with her, his brother. He wouldn’t accept that Bryden was gone. Feeling insecure in his finances and frankly desiring to see Dorne, a land thus far out of his reach, he decided to venture beyond the familiar Stormlands and head for Sunspear.

  • Name: Olivar Graceford, son of Orwen.
  • Age: 24
  • Focus: Gold (going into the Builder tree)
  • Appearance: Tall, lean, broad-shouldered. Lightly tanned, with short dark hair and somewhat unkempt stubble, yet to fill in completely. Notably crooked mouth and a smile to match.

If I'm missing anything, let me know. The sub is familiar but I haven't really played before, much less as a SCC.
